Welcome to The Herald!
Welcome to The Herald, the new blog of The Heraldry Society.
This new medium will allow us to engage with you - member or not - in a more direct fashion. Though we will publish interesting articles, interviews and photography here, our members-only content is of course still to be found in The Heraldry Gazette and the Coat of Arms, our two main organs of information.
Why a blog, we hear you ask? Members will be familiar with our publications, which are published quarterly (Gazette) and annually (Coat of Arms). Publishing here, in this format, allows us to get content of an equally high quality out to you at a more rapid rate, and keeps the conversations flowing without large breaks between publications.
What to expect? There is only one standard at The Heraldry Society, and that is Excellence. You can expect to find here the same excellent work you would find across our social media and publications. In addition to articles and interviews on all things heraldry, we will be publishing a series entitled From The Archives, which we are particularly excited about. In this series we will republish articles which were first printed in the past editions of the Coat of Arms. The Society archives are full of treasures, and we are keen to be bringing them back into the light of day.
Additionally, please look forward to our Profiles series, which will be a series of articles and interviews with Officers of Arms, and those closely connected to heraldry, throughout the world. The first in our series is a profile of Professor Gillian Black, who was recently promoted to Carrick Pursuivant at the Court of the Lord Lyon.
Many of you will be joining us here from social media and, particularly, our vibrant Facebook group. We would encourage you to keep the conversation flowing here in the comments. Please like, share and comment as you see fit. Heraldry draws so many different people from so many different backgrounds, it will be a pleasure to hear people's differing views on so many topics.
We look forward to joining in the conversation with you.
Griff and Paul.
